Preventive Measures To Be Taken To Get Protected From Infection During Postmortem Investigations

Health workers face a serious risk of getting an infection during postmortem investigations. Especially the autopsy rooms are the potential infection sources. For this reason, infection transmission risk should be remembered even in emergency postmortem investigations and necessary preventive measures should be taken. There is a contamination risk during autopsy with the pricking of the needle contaminated with blood or body fluids, with the contact of blood, body fluids and open wounds as well as inhalation of the particles by means of airways. To get protected from infection, a multidimensional approach including the physical conditions of autopsy rooms, autopsy technique, usage of safety equipment, continue education, health scanning should be applied.Keywords: Autopsy, communicable diseases, prevention& controlTurkiye Klinikleri J Foren Med 2008, 5:24-30
