It’s aimed to investigate the type, frequency and the manner of the child deaths due to head trauma in this study. Material and Methods: The reports of the forensic death cases in Diyarbakır that occurred between 2003 and 2006 were examined retrospectively. 381 child victims with head trauma were involved in this study and the parameters of gender, age, type of trauma and the manner of death were evaluated. Results: 76.7% of the 381 cases were male and the average age of the victims were 7.7 years of age. 47.51% of the head traumas were resulted from traffic accidents and 80.55% of all this accidents occurred outside of the vehicles. Accident was the manner of that in 89% of all head traumas resulting from head trauma. However, it’s pointed out that suicide and homicide rates of young male adolescents are rising and the suicide rates of females are higher than males. Conclusion: It was interesting that child deaths resulting from head trauma were mainly due to traffic accidents outside of the vehicles. It should be accepted that infancy traumas are public health issues. Child deaths due to head trauma can be reduced significantly if the families and authorized units would take precautions and make further study on this critic issue. Keywords: Childhood, head trauma, deathTurkiye Klinikleri J Foren Med 2008, 5:19-23
